Welcome to Pure Maths
:Goal
The aim of the mathematical foundation program in general is to ensure
that students are equipped with the mathematical understanding and skills
necessary to meet the cognitive and practical requirements of higher education
or postsecondary studies in a variety of disciplines.” As presented by the GFP
Mathematical Working Group
Important things should be known after studying this course:
* Demonstrate understanding of the definition of a function and its graph.
* Describe polynomial functions.
* Define and manipulate exponential and logarithmic functions and solve
problems arising from real life applications.
* Understand the inverse relationship between exponents and logarithms
functions and use this relationship to solve related problems.
* Describe analytically the trigonometric functions and their inverses.
* Demonstrate an understanding of trigonometric identities.
* Use the law of sines and cosines to solve a triangle and real life
problems.
* Use appropriate software to interpret equations and graphs
* Identify special notation and formulas for representing and generating
sequences and series.
* Know the conic sections and understand in particular the parabola,
ellipse and hyperbola and construct their standard equations.
